The Belgium international moved to Manchester United in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Everton in the summer transfer window to bolster Jose Mourinho’s attacking options.
Lukaku turned down the chance to return to his former club Chelsea FC in favour of linking up with Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford for the second time in his career.
The Red Devils striker netted his 15th goal in 30 games in the Premier League in a 2-0 win against Swansea at Old Trafford last weekend.
Lukaku’s goal against the Swans was the 100th of his Premier League career following previous stints at Chelsea FC, Everton and West Bromwich Albion.
The 24-year-old has been criticised this term for his record against the so-called top clubs in the current campaign.
Mata was quick to heap praise on Lukaku for his incredible goal-scoring record in the Premier League.
“I’d like to congratulate Romelu Lukaku for his goal 100th in the Premier League,” Mata wrote on his personal blog.
“Reaching that number of goals at the age of 24 is something truly exceptional that only the great goalscorers can achieve.
“I’m happy especially for Romelu, because his work for the team doesn’t reflect only through his goals. He is a great guy and he deserves it.”
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table and two points ahead of Liverpool FC.
The Red Devils haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013.
