Paul Scholes has praised Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku for an impressive first season at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils signed the Belgium international in a £75m deal from his Premier League rivals Everton in the 2017 summer transfer window.

Lukaku scored 10 times in his opening nine games in all competitions to hit the ground running at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old went through a challenging spell in November, December and January before rediscovering his goal-scoring form in recent months.

Lukaku netted Manchester United’s second goal in a 2-0 win against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils forward has scored eight times and has made two assists in his last 10 games in all competitions.

Belgium international Lukaku has now hit the 26-goal mark in his first campaign at the 20-time English champions.

Former Manchester United star Scholes has been impressed with Lukaku’s debut season at the Red Devils.

“It’s been a really good season for him goals wise,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“This is the type of thing he has to do regularly. It’s a lovely finish [against Bournemouth].”

Manchester United will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday.

The Red Devils suffered a surprise 1-0 loss to West Brom at Old Trafford last weekend to prompt Jose Mourinho to make wholesale changes for the trip to Bournemouth on Wednesday night.
