Only Romelu Lukaku has scored more times than the 25-year-old following Lingard’s impressive return of eight goals and four assists.
The England international has netted some important goals, including the winner in a 2-1 victory over defending champions Chelsea FC.
Lingard has transferred his form to the England set-up with the winner in a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands last week.
Former Liverpool FC star Murphy believes Lingard has made significant improvements to his game this term.
“Lingard is very clever at making runs from deep,” Murphy told Sky Sports.
“Lingard is such an intelligent player. He scores big goals for Man United. He has added an extra dimension.
“There were question marks about him a year ago.”
Lingard has scored 24 times in 122 games in all competitions throughout his Manchester United career so far.
Manchester United lost 2-1 to La Liga giants Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16.
