Gary Neville believes Manchester United will be able to reflect on a “good season” if the Red Devils can win the FA Cup at Wembley next month.

Manchester United eased to a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley last weekend after Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera cancelled out Romelu Lukaku’s opener.

The Red Devils can win the competition for the second time in three seasons, while Mourinho can secure his third major trophy since taking over the reins from Louis van Gaal last season.

Manchester United will have to beat Mourinho’s former club Chelsea FC in the Wembley showpiece after the Blues were 2-0 winners against Southampton in the other semi-final.

The Red Devils are in second place in the Premier League table but 16 points behind champions Manchester City after a disappointing top-flight campaign.

Mourinho’s brand of football has also attracted criticism given Manchester City and Liverpool FC have scored more goals than Manchester United.

Former Red Devils defender Neville believes Manchester United need to win the FA Cup to have a good season.

“For United, is it a great season? No,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“But it is a good season because the momentum is still going as they have the opportunity to win the FA Cup and finish second, which would be progression.”

Manchester United won the Europa League and the League Cup in their first season under Mourinho’s management.
