Gary Neville has warned Paul Pogba that he must produce on the pitch given the Manchester United record signing’s price tag and colourful personality.

The Red Devils re-signed Pogba in an £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window to make the French midfielder the most expensive player in the world before Neymar’s switch to Paris Saint-Germain last year.

Pogba won the Europa League and the League Cup in his first season back at Old Trafford but the versatile midfielder struggled to recapture his Juventus form in Jose Mourinho’s team.

The 25-year-old made a promising start to the 2017-18 season with two goals and two assists in his opening four Premier League appearances before a hamstring problem curtailed his form.

Pogba has struggled since his return to the Manchester United team and Mourinho has opted to omit the record signing for big games, such as both legs of their 2-1 aggregate loss to Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16.

However, the France international scored twice in the Manchester derby last weekend to help the Red Devils to come from 2-0 down to rescue a 3-2 victory over the Premier League leaders.

Former Manchester United defender Neville had some advice for Pogba if the Frenchman is to realise his talent at Old Trafford.

“When you are a player who signed for that money, when you dance like he does, when you have hair like he does, you have to play well,” Neville told his Sky Sports podcast.

“You have to match it. He hasn’t played. He has fallen out with his manager. It is a difficult situation.”
