Bryan Robson says Paul Pogba is allowed to enjoy his football at Manchester United but warned the France midfielder ultimately his role is to secure victories.

The 25-year-old has faced a lot of criticism over the past few months following an alarming drop off in form under Jose Mourinho.

The Manchester United manager hasn’t been afraid to criticise his record signing and has even dropped Pogba from his starting XI.

The flamboyant midfielder has struggled to carry out his defensive duties alongside Nemanja Matic to prompt some criticism from the club’s supporters.

Pogba is a colourful character on social media but some of his detractors have accused the France international of being distracted by off-field activities.

Reports in the English media have even suggested that Pogba could leave Manchester United at the end of the 2017-18 season.

Former Manchester United captain Robson had some advice for Pogba about how to be a success for both the Red Devils and his national team France.

“He is a great lad. Dugarry does have a point,” Robson told Irish radio station Newstalk.

“It is only a small change. It is about enjoying but it isn’t fun. It is a job. You need to win. That’s what the Manchester United and France supporters expect.”

Pogba moved to Manchester United in a club record in an £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window.

The Red Devils will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley this month.
