The France international answered his critics with a brilliant second-half performance in Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Manchester City in Saturday evening’s derby.
The Red Devils were trailing 2-0 at half-time following goals from Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan in the opening 45 minutes at the Etihad Stadium.
However, Pogba halved the deficit with a clinical finish past Ederson before the club record signing managed to steer a header past the Manchester City goalkeeper.
England international Chris Smalling completed the comeback with a close-range finish to ensure Manchester City had to wait at least another week to get their hands on the Premier League trophy.
Pogba has been criticised for his ineffective performances in recent months and Jose Mourinho has resorted to leaving his club record signing on the bench.
The £89m signing has struggled when asked to play alongside Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park but Pogba excelled at Manchester City as part of a three-man midfield.
Former Liverpool FC midfielder Murphy claimed that Pogba is capable of becoming a proficient goal-scoring playmaker such as Chelsea FC legend Lampard.
“Lampard was the best at it,” Murphy said on talkSPORT.
“In terms of, not necessarily going deep and getting on the ball, but you could let him go.
“You’d think you’d got him and next thing he’s in the box, he’s popping up all over the place.
“I think Pogba, with his ability, has to score more goals than he does.”
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table.
