The Citizens claimed a dominant 3-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday to take another big step towards winning the top-flight trophy.
The result means that Pep Guardiola’s side can be crowned as Premier League champions if they beat Manchester United at The Etihad on Saturday evening this weekend.
The prospect of Manchester City winning the title this season against their derby rivals is sure to frustrated Manchester United fans.
However, former Red Devils defender Ferdinand insists that there is nothing to be done apart from respect the impressive way in which Guardiola’s team have gone about their business this season.
Asked about the prospect of Manchester City winning the title against United, Ferdinand told BT Sport: “I might just go back on holiday!
“But listen, it’s fully deserved. I have to put my allegiances to one side and pay my respect to a team that are outright the best in this league.
“It’s a matter of time before they get the trophy. Give it to them now. They’re a fantastic team to watch.”
Manchester United were 2-0 winners over Swansea City at Old Trafford last weekend as they claimed victory thanks to goals from Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku.
The Red Devils are aiming to secure a top-four finish this season and also book their place in the FA Cup final by beating Tottenham in their last-four clash at Wembley later this month.
