The England midfielder has been earning plenty of praise for his strong performances for the Red Devils this term after having seemingly won Mourinho over this term.
Lingard has scored eight goals and made four assists in the Premier League for Mourinho’s men and has been a regular fixture in the first team at Old Trafford.
The 25-year-old seems to be coming of age and hitting top form for the Red Devils as he bids to try and help Manchester United end the season on high before this summer’s World Cup with England.
And the midfielder has thanked Mourinho for showing faith in his ability this season by giving him a regular run of games in the first team.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Lingard said of Mourinho: “He’s given me confidence by putting faith in me to play in my preferred role in the No 10 position.
“I can only thank him for that. It’s good that I can repay him by scoring goals and helping the team.
“It’s up to him if he believes in a player and trusts the player to go and perform. He’s done that with me, one week you might play and score and the next you’re on the bench.”
Manchester United will return to Premier League action next weekend when they take on bitter local rivals Manchester City at The Etihad.
The Red Devils will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley later this month as they bid to try and end the season with a trophy.
