Jose Mourinho has told Manchester United fans not to expect the best from Alexis Sanchez until next season.

Sanchez has been adapting to life at Old Trafford after having signed for the Red Devils from Arsenal in the January transfer window.

However, despite being a regular fixture in the first team at Old Trafford, most Red Devils fans would agree that he is yet to fully hit top gear for Mourinho’s men.

The 29-year-old moved to Old Trafford as part of the deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan head to the Emirates.

He is widely considered to be one of the best attacking talents in the Premier League but he has struggled to produce consistent displays this term.

However, Mourinho admits that he is not expecting to see the best from the Chile international until next term.

Speaking at a news conference before Manchester United’s FA Cup clash with Tottenham, Mourinho said: “(It’s) the reason I am not a big fan of the January market but it was an opportunity we didn’t want to lose.

“The deal was to be done then or probably never, and we decided to do it.

“I was not expecting Alexis to arrive and immediately become the player we know he can be.

“I know next season he will be more Alexis than he is now.”

Manchester United are currently in second place in the Premier League table as they look to try and finish as runners-up to Manchester City.

The Red Devils won the Europa League and League Cup in Mourinho’s first campaign at Old Trafford last season but they finished sixth in the Premier League table.
