The Red Devils are bound to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks and months as Mourinho thinks about how best to bolster his squad ahead of his third season in charge at Old Trafford.
Manchester United could still end the season by winning the FA Cup but they have come up short to Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.
Red Devils fans will be desperately hoping to see Manchester United launch a genuine title challenge next season as they look to try and win the trophy for the first time since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.
With Michael Carrick set to retire at the end of the season and Marouane Fellaini looking likely to leave the club, Mourinho has confirmed that he will look to bring in midfield reinforcements this summer.
Speaking at a news conference after Manchester United’s win over Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday, Mourinho said: “We are going to invest the basic to improve our squad.
“We need to find a replacement for Michael Carrick, if Marouane Fellaini leaves, we need to find a replacement for Marouane Fellaini.
“There is always in the group of players, in the squad, there is always a player or a couple of players, they are not playing a lot, and they will try obviously to leave.
“So we are going again to touch our squad and to believe that more than spend, spend, spend, is probably the evolution of our players.
“We have some young players that need to get with both hands opportunities with their evolution, so let’s see.”
Manchester United will return to Premier League action on Sunday when they host bitter rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford.
