Lukaku netted his 100th Premier League goal to add to Alexis Sanchez’s strike as the Red Devils claimed a 2-0 win over Swansea City at Old Trafford on Saturday to take a big step towards securing a top four finish.
It has been something of a mixed season for Manchester United, with the Red Devils struggling to product consistent form in all competitions.
Mourinho’s men were dumped out of the Champions League last month following a shock defeat by Sevilla in the round of 16.
And with Manchester City having run away with the Premier League title, the Red Devils are left playing for a top-four finish and the FA Cup this season.
And Lukaku has revealed that Mourinho has told his players that no place is secure as the Red Devils look to enjoy a strong end to the campaign.
Speaking to BBC Sport on Saturday, Lukaku said: “Of course it is important to finish strongly. The manager told us we all have to fight for our place in the team.”
Reflecting on his landmark goal, he added: “I’m really happy to achieve that milestone. It is a dream come true. l’m really happy to achieve that in a league I’ve wanted to play in since I was six years old.”
Manchester United return to Premier League action next weekend with a crunch clash against Manchester City.
