Man United accused of being ‘terrible’ ahead of Tottenham clash
Paul Merson has not been at all impressed by Man United's performances in the Premier League this season
Paul Merson has described Manchester United as being “terrible” to watch after their defeat by West Brom in the Premier League last weekend.
The Red Devils slumped to a shock 1-0 loss to the Premier League’s basement club at Old Trafford on Sunday as the result handed Manchester City the title.
Manchester United have struggled to produce consistent form all season in the Premier League but they are still on course to finish as runners-up to Manchester City in what is Jose Mourinho’s second campaign in charge.
The Red Devils are now preparing for their FA Cup semi-final clash against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley this weekend as they bid to try and reach the showpiece and end the season with a trophy.
However, former Arsenal star Merson has not been at all impressed by what he has seen from the Red Devils under Mourinho this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said: “I’ve never seen anything like Man United’s performance on Sunday, at the highest level. It was like: ‘We’ll turn up and wipe the floor of these’.
“It was too slow. It’s not been good. They’ve been terrible to watch, and they’ve got enough attacking flair. It’s not like you’re sat there thinking: ‘Who can they bring on here?’
“They never really looked like scoring! There is no shape to them, when I watch them it just seems like it’s a case of: ‘If it happens, it happens, if it doesn’t they’re struggling’. But when I watch Tottenham, Liverpool and Man City you can see what they’re trying to do.”
Manchester United won both the Europa League and League Cup under Mourinho last season but finished sixth in the Premier League table.
The Red Devils’ Premier League form has been much improved, but they are still set to finish a considerable distance behind champions Manchester City in the table.
