Pogba was named as the man of the match as the French midfielder helped to fire Jose Mourinho’s men to a comeback win against their bitter local rivals at The Etihad.
The Red Devils had found themselves to be 2-0 down at the break on Saturday but two quick-fire goals from Pogba in the second half helped them to fight back.
And Chris Smalling ended up being the unlikely hero as he netted the winner in the second half to claim all three points for Mourinho’s side and put Manchester City’s title celebrations on hold.
Carrick is preparing to hang up his boots at the end of the season as he embarks on a coaching career.
And Pogba has revealed that the advice from the former England international helped to inspire his performance against Manchester City.
Pogba is quoted as saying by the Daily Express: “I give the credit to Michael because after every game he shows me the video and says to make those runs.
“He’s someone who’s helped me a lot, every time after training he says ‘Come, look at this run, you can kill because nobody can stop you’.
“It’s hard to make this run in a two [man midfield] because you have to stay and you have to control. When we have three players, I know that [Nemanja] Matic will stay behind, and you have more freedom to go in front.”
Meanwhile, Manchester United will now turn their attentions towards their next Premier League game – a home clash against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils are in second place in the table as they bid to finish as runners-up to Manchester City and win the FA Cup this season.
