Manchester United want to sign Southampton defender Cedric Soares this summer, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mirror, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Saints want to bring the 26-year-old to Old Trafford this summer to provide cover and competition for Antonio Valencia.

The same report says that Jose Mourinho is keen to ease the load on Valencia, who has been Manchester United’s first-choice right-back this season, with the Ecuadorian set to turn 33 this summer.

According to the same story, Mourinho has decided that Portugal international Soares is the perfect fit for his Manchester United team this summer.

The right-back has made two assists in 28 Premier League games for Southampton this season.

Manchester United are bound to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks and months as Mourinho looks to assemble a squad capable of winning the Premier League next season.

The Red Devils are currently second in the table as they bid to finish as runners-up to Manchester City in the top flight and win the FA Cup this term.

Manchester United will take on Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final next month at Wembley.
