Man United weigh up £25m bid for proven Premier League defender – report

Manchester United are considering a £25m bid to sign Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand, according to a report in England.
The Sun, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, is reporting that Manchester United are interested in the England international ahead of the summer transfer window.
The same article states that Manchester United were interested in a move to sign Bertrand last summer as the England left-back was linked with Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Newcastle United.
According to the same story, Bertrand would almost certainly leave the Saints if Southampton are relegated at the end of a difficult season for the south coast club under Mauricio Pellegrino and Mark Hughes.
The 28-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best left-backs at St Mary’s over the past four seasons after Bertrand decided to quit Chelsea FC for the Saints in 2015.
Bertrand has scored six goals in 139 appearances in all competitions over the past three and a half seasons.
Mourinho has been reluctant to use former Southampton defender Luke Shaw since taking over the reins at the Old Trafford club back in 2016.
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table but 13 points adrift of Manchester City.
