The England international has struggled to earn a regular starting spot in the Manchester United team under Jose Mourinho.
Indeed, the Red Devils boss has regularly criticised the 22-year-old for his lacklustre performances over the past 20 months.
Shaw was substituted at half-time in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup quarter-final.
Mourinho blasted Shaw’s performance in his post-match media conference to raise further questions about Shaw’s future.
The former Southampton defender has been linked with a potential switch to Tottenham Hotspur to link up with ex-Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Reports in the British media last week suggested that Shaw could move to FC Barcelona at the end of the 2017-18 season.
Former Liverpool FC defender Nicol believes there is no way Shaw will end up at FC Barcelona.
“I don’t see it at all,” Nicol told ESPN FC. “Barcelona don’t need a left-back. Jordi Alba is doing very well.
“Luke Shaw wants to go and play. If Luke Shaw wants to go and play somewhere, he is not playing at Barcelona.
“It makes no sense for Luke Shaw. It’s not happening.”
Shaw moved to Manchester United in a £27m deal from Southampton in the 2014 summer transfer window.
The Red Devils lost 2-1 to La Liga giants Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16 earlier this month.
