Manchester United could sign both Raphael Varane and Samuel Umtiti in the summer transfer window, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mirror, as quoted by the Daily Star, is reporting that Jose Mourinho wants to “revamp” his defence this summer and both the FC Barcelona and Real Madrid stars are high up on his shopping list.

The same story says that Manchester United are keen on signing FC Barcelona star Umtiti this summer but the defender wants his £50,000-a-week wages to be trebled at Old Trafford.

The article also says that Manchester United are likely to have to part with a hefty transfer fee to sign Umtiti because his current contract at Camp Nou is set to expire in 2021.

Umtiti, 24, has been a regular fixture in the FC Barcelona team this season, making 21 La Liga appearances for the Spanish side.

The story also claims that Mourinho is keen on a reunion for Real Madrid defender Varane, who he gave his debut to during his time in charge at the Bernabeu.

Varane, also 24, has made 21 La Liga appearances this season for Real Madrid and has also featured six times in the Champions League so far.

The report also suggests that Chris Smalling could be one of the players to make way this summer, with Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind also expected to be shipped out by the Red Devils.

Manchester United are playing for a top four finish and the FA Cup title this season.
