Diego Simeone replies when asked if he could be next Arsenal manager
Diego Simeone plays down talk of him replacing Arsene Wenger as Arsenal's next manager
Diego Simeone has insisted that he has had no contact with Arsenal about the possibility of taking over as the club’s new manager.
The Gunners are currently on the lookout for a new boss after Arsene Wenger confirmed that he will be standing down at the end of the season after almost 22 years in charge.
Simeone is one of the names to have been linked with the managerial post at The Emirates as the Gunners look to appoint a manager capable of leading Arsenal back up the Premier League table.
However, the Atletico Madrid boss has insisted that he has not yet had any contact with the north London side as he played down suggestions he could move to England.
Asked about the possibility of taking over at Arsenal, Simeone told a news conference on Wednesday: “No, I haven’t spoken with anyone at Arsenal.”
Arsenal have struggled to challenge for the Premier League title in recent seasons and they are currently languishing down in sixth place in the table and looking likely to miss out on a top four finish once again.
The north London side have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
However, they have lifted the FA Cup trophy in three of the last four seasons.
