Pundit names Man United star as ‘most irritating’ Premier League player
Garth Crooks isn't a big fan of Manchester United star Ander Herrera
Ander Herrera is the most annoying player in the Premier League, Garth Crooks has claimed.
The Spanish midfielder scored Manchester United’s winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley last weekend.
Herrera produced a tenacious performance alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park to help Manchester United reach their second FA Cup final in three seasons.
The Manchester United star has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI in the current campaign to raise questions about his future.
Herrera has scored two goals and has been booked six times in 34 games in all competitions in the current campaign.
Former Spurs forward Crooks described Herrera as an irritating player after his winner in Manchester United’s 2-1 triumph over Spurs.
“I find Ander Herrera the most irritating player in the Premier League,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“He looks like butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth. But if he’s not pulling your shirt, he’s leaving his foot in on his opposite number and if anyone touches him he goes down as if he’s been poleaxed.
“Against Spurs in the FA Cup semi-final, Herrera did all of those things and much more. He took care of Mousa Dembele in the first half and then imposed himself on the rest of the game.
“In fact, he seemed to be everywhere. For your performance to be so infectious and yet somehow remain on the field takes some doing. I suppose that’s what Jose Mourinho calls a winning mentality.”
Manchester United signed Herrera in a £27m deal from La Liga side Athletic Bilbao in the 2014 summer transfer window.
The Red Devils are in second place in the Premier League table but 16 points behind champions Manchester City.
