The defending Premier League champions played out a frustrating 1-1 draw with West Ham United at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
Chelsea FC have lost five of their last eight Premier League games to effectively end their chances of securing a top-four spot.
The Blues are in fifth place in the Premier League table and 10 points behind Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur in the final Champions League qualification spot.
The west London side will face a Southampton side plummeting towards relegation despite the appointment of Mark Hughes as their new manager.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing the Saints to get a draw or a win against Chelsea FC at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon.
“The opening goal is normally very important in any game but perhaps less so at St Mary’s this weekend, given both sides failed to hang on to a lead last weekend,” Owen told BetVictor.
“Indeed Southampton have now failed to win any of the last six Premier League games in which they have opened the scoring!
“The Saints badly need the points as they look to maintain their Premier League status and if there is to be a winner at St Mary’s I feel it will be the hosts, despite having lost their last four league games against Chelsea.”
Chelsea FC have won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
The Blues signed Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, AS Roma defender Emerson Palmieri and Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud in the January transfer window.
Chelsea FC lost 4-1 to Spanish side FC Barcelona in the Champions League round of 16.
