Tottenham are keen on signing Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax this summer, according to reports
Tottenham Hotspur could be set to battle with Arsenal for the signature of highly-rated Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer, according to reports in the British media.
Website football.london is reporting that Spurs are pondering a big-money move for the 18-year-old but they could fave competition from their bitter local rivals.
The same report says that the Netherlands international has been catching the eye of a host of top clubs in recent months, including both FC Barcelona and Arsenal.
However, Tottenham are also now thought to be in the race for his signature, as the uncertainty about Toby Alderweireld’s future at White Hart Lane rumbles on.
The same report says that De Ligt could cost as much as £50m this summer following his strong performances for the Dutch side.
The teenager has been in fine form for Ajax so far this season, scoring three goals and making one assist in 28 games in the Dutch league.
According to the same report, Tottenham will face “fierce” competition for De Ligt’s signature, but their strong relationship with Ajax may help them to land their man.
Meanwhile, Tottenham will return to Premier League action on Saturday when they travel to Stoke City in the top flight.
