Andy Robertson has warned his Liverpool FC team-mates that they cannot take their eye off the ball ahead of their crunch showdown with Brighton on Sunday.

The Reds suffered a setback in their hopes of finishing in the top four this season when they were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon following Olivier Giroud’s first half goal.

That result means that Chelsea FC could move level on points with the Reds if they win their game in hand against Huddersfield Town in Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

However, Liverpool FC still have their fate very much in their own hands – and they will secure their spot in the top four this season with victory over Brighton in front of their home fans on Sunday.

The Reds are also gearing up for their Champions League final showdown against Real Madrid at the end of the month.

However, Reds defender Robertson has warned his team-mates that they must focus solely on Sunday’s clash with Brighton as they bid to finish the Premier League season on a high.

Speaking to Liverpool FC’s website, Robertson said: “Effectively, we have got two cup finals now.

“We can’t think about Kiev. We know the media and the fans will be focused on that but for us it’s all about Brighton.

“We know that if we win our final game we will be in the top four, regardless of how the other results go.

“It’s going to be a massive game. Getting in the top four has been our main objective since the start of the season.

“We need to tick that off by beating Brighton. All our work this week will be going towards achieving that.”

Liverpool FC will take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev on Saturday 26 May.
