The Gunners starlet was handed a starting spot for Arsenal’s trip to their bitter rivals Manchester United last weekend.
Maitland-Niles impressed in a central role despite his midfield partner Granit Xhaka struggling in the middle of the park.
The 20-year-old completed 92 per cent of his attempted passes, while he made two successful dribbles and three tackles.
The England Under-21 international has started 19 times and has made seven substitutes appearances in his breakthrough campaign.
Former Arsenal star Keown raved about Maitland-Niles following his performance in Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United.
“I liked Ainsley Maitland-Niles, both in the maturity of his performance and the way he spoke afterwards,” Keown told the Daily Mail.
“He is one for the future and Arsene has been bold to give him an opportunity in a central area.”
Arsenal are in sixth spot in the Premier League table to leave the Gunners without Champions League football for another season.
The north London side lost 3-0 to Premier League champions Manchester City in the League Cup at Wembley back in February.
