Piers Morgan reacts after Arsenal appoint Unai Emery as new manager
The Arsenal supporter has welcomed the appointment of Unai Emery as the new Gunners manager
Piers Morgan has issued his backing for new Arsenal manager Unai Emery.
The Gunners have appointed Emery as their new head coach following weeks of speculation surrounding Arsene Wenger’s potential successor.
Former Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta was thought to be favourite to take over the reins for the north London club before the Gunners turned to Emery.
The 46-year-old won three Europa League titles with Sevilla before the Spanish coach led Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title and successive triumphs in Coupe de la Ligue and Coupe de France.
Some Arsenal supporters have expressed their discontent with the appointment given the Gunners chief executive Ivan Gazidis promised a bold appointment.
However, outspoken Arsenal shareholder and supporter Morgan gave his seal of approval to Emery taking over the reins of the north London side ahead of the 2018-19 season.
Morgan wrote on Twitter: “I’ve given Ivan The Terrible a lot of stick in the past, but I agree with this statement & I congratulate him on choosing a young, dynamic, successful manager. 👍”
Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot in successive seasons.
The Gunners lost 2-1 to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals to miss out on a potential qualification place for the Champions League next term.
Arsenal haven’t finished in the top four in the past two seasons.
