Thierry Henry: What I really think of Ainsley Maitland-Niles at Arsenal
Thierry Henry praises Ainsley Maitland-Niles following his strong display for Arsenal at Man United
Thierry Henry has praised Ainsley Maitland-Niles following the young midfielder’s strong display during Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United on Sunday.
The 20-year-old made his seventh Premier League start of the season for the Gunners and was named of the man of the match for his impressive performance at Old Trafford.
It’s not often that the player on a losing team is named as the star man, and former Arsenal star Henry believes that highlights the potential he has shown.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Henry said: “That doesn’t happen often – that you’re on the losing side and are the man of the match.
“What like about him is that he has legs. He’s a box-to-box player. He didn’t shy away from any challenges.”
Maitland-Niles has made 26 appearances in all competitions this season and will be hoping to prove himself to the new Arsenal manager in the coming months.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are now switching their focus towards their crunch Europa League semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid on Thursday night.
The north London side were pegged back and held to a 1-1 draw by the Spanish side in the first leg at The Emirates last week.
With the Gunners currently in sixth place in the Premier League table, winning the Europa League this season is their last remaining hope of qualifying for next term’s Champions League.
