Arsene Wenger is backing Arsenal to challenge for the Premier League title next season under their new manager.

The Frenchman is set to stand down at the end of the season after almost 22 years in charge of the north London club.

The Gunners have struggled to find consistent form in the last few months and are set to have to settle for a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League.

Arsenal are going to finish outside the top four for the second season running as they have to settle for another campaign without Champions League football at The Emirates.

The north London side have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph under Wenger back in the 2003-04 campaign.

Arsenal are yet to confirm who will be taking over from Wenger at the end of the season, but the Frenchman seems to be very confident that the current group of players has a very bright future.

Speaking at his news conference after Arsenal’s 3-1 loss to Leicester City on Wednesday night, Wenger said: “I feel that if you look at our season, at home we have had championship-winning form.

“Away from home we have had the consequence of many things: a lack of confidence because of a few bad results, and after that we neglected some games because we were in the Europa League.

“The quality is there, the spirit is exceptional. I think if the team has one or two good away results next year, they will play for the Premier League – I’m convinced because there’s something special in that team, which will come out next season.

“I’m convinced that Arsenal will be one of the top contenders next year.”

Arsenal were hoping to book their place in the Champions League for next season by winning the Europa League, but the Gunners were knocked out by Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals last week.
