Arsenal beat Bayern Munich to the signing of 21-year-old defender – report
Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu, say reports
Arsenal have beaten Bayern Munich to the signing of Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu, according to Altinordu president Seyit Mehmet Ozkan.
The Evening Standard is reporting that the Gunners have been tracking the 21-year-old defender for some time as they look to strengthen their options at the back ahead of next season.
Now, Ozkan has appeared to confirm that the Gunners are set to sign Soyuncu this summer as one of their first recruits of the post-Arsene Wenger era.
Speaking at the International Football Economic Forum, Ozkan said: “Caglar Soyuncu set to join Arsenal.
“Arsenal demanded his youth information from us. We’ll earn from him, if he joins Arsenal. Bayern Munich wants him too, but he’s on the way to the Premier League.”
Turkish youngster Soyuncu has scored one goal in 25 league games for Freiburg this season.
Arsenal are likely to make moves to sign a number of new players this summer as the club prepares for life without Wenger.
The Gunners missed out on a place in the Champions League for next season after they were beaten by Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals.
The north London side are now currently preparing for Wenger’s final home game in charge on Sunday afternoon when they host Burnley in the Premier League.
Arsenal are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table as they bid to try and finish as highly as possible in their final campaign under Wenger.
