Guillem Balague is backing Unai Emery to be a success at Arsenal – as long as he is able to make the right signings this summer.

The Spaniard was confirmed as the north London club’s new head coach last week as they brought him in as Arsene Wenger’s permanent replacement at The Emirates.

Attentions will now inevitably turn towards the summer transfer window and the players Emery could look to bring to The Emirates as he looks to build a squad capable of breaking back into the top four next season.

Arsenal have finished outside of the top four places in the Premier League for the last two seasons under Wenger and they will be hoping that a change in management will also prompt a change in fortunes.

And Spanish football expert Balague believes that Emery could well be the right man to help start returning Arsenal to the top of English football.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Balague said: “A £50m net spend could be a good figure if Arsenal are brave enough to get rid of some of the players they have, raise money that way, and bring new blood if that is what they feel they have to do.

“So we’ll see, they will have to be intelligent in the transfer market.”

He added: “Players are better than they looked in the last two or three years, they just need to sharpen up and maybe a new voice and a new way of doing things which Emery is certainly going to add.

“He will be very meticulous and through in the way he does things.”

Arsenal ended the season without a trophy, but the Gunners did win the FA Cup in three of Wenger’s last four seasons in charge at The Emirates.

The north London side have not won the Premier League since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
