Thierry Henry has a warning for Arsenal youngster Konstantinos Mavropanos
Thierry Henry admits that he wants to see more of Konstantinos Mavropanos before judging his ability
Thierry Henry has admitted that he wants to see more of Konstantinos Mavropanos before coming to a conclusion about the young Arsenal defender’s ability.
The 20-year-old made his full Premier League debut for Arsenal on Sunday during the 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Greek youngster was very impressive at the back despite failing to prevent Arsenal from slipping to a disappointing defeat to Jose Mourinho’s men.
Mavropanos showed plenty of promise and Arsenal fans will be hoping to see him develop into a top defender for the north London club in the years to come.
However, although Arsenal legend Henry was impressed by the defender’s display against Manchester United, he admits that he wants to see more of him before judging his potential.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Sunday’s game, Henry said: “I thought he was very solid [against Man United].
“He was brave and defended the crosses well.
“Time will tell. He had a very good game today. But I’ve seen that before at Arsenal – centre-backs having a good game when they arrive and then they went on to maybe not be the player we thought they were going to be.
“I will be honest, I thought he was very good today, but I will like to see more of him.”
Sunday’s loss left Arsenal in sixth place in the Premier League table and facing another disappointing campaign in the top flight.
Arsenal will return to Europa League action on Thursday night when they travel to Atletico Madrid in the return leg of their semi-final clash.
The two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg in London last week to hand Atletico the advantage heading into the return leg in Spain.
