Unai Emery explains how his new-look Arsenal team will play
Unai Emery explains what he wants to achieve as Arsenal boss following his appointment this week
Unai Emery has revealed that he wants his new Arsenal team to play with “personality” after he was confirmed as the club’s new manager on Wednesday.
The Spaniard has been brought in as Arsene Wenger’s successor at The Emirates after the Frenchman stood down at the end of last season following almost 22 years in charge of the north London club.
Emery has been tasked with steering Arsenal back into the top four spots in the Premier League after the Gunners missed out on Champions League qualification for the last two seasons.
Arsenal ended up in sixth place this term in what was a disappointing campaign for Wenger’s final stint in charge at the north London club.
All eyes will now be on the signings Emery looks to try and make ahead of his first season in charge at the north London side.
And Emery has spoken of how he intends to set up his new team as he bids to try and guide Arsenal back to the pinnacle of English football.
Speaking at his first news conference as Arsenal boss at The Emirates on Wednesday, Emery said: “[I want my team to play] with personality.
“This personality for all the minutes of a match: protagonists. I like the possession with the ball, I like good pressing against the other team. I prefer to win 5-4 than win 1-0.”
Arsenal have not won the Premier League since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 campaign.
