Pep Guardiola has welcomed Arsenal’s appointment of Unai Emery as the north London club’s head coach.

The Gunners confirmed that they had appointed the Spaniard as Arsene Wenger’s successor on Wednesday morning after days of speculation linking the former Paris Saint-German boss with the job.

Arsenal had been on the lookout for a new boss after Wenger confirmed that he would be stepping down at the end of the season after 22 years in charge of the club.

Emery has been tasked with steering Arsenal back into the top four next season as they bid to try and improve their Premier League performances next term.

The north London club finished in sixth place in the Premier League this season as they once again missed out on Champions League qualification for next term.

And Manchester City boss Guardiola believes that the north London side have appointed a quality manager after the news was confirmed this week.

Guardiola is quoted as saying by Metro: “His career speaks for itself.

“He did it perfect in Spain with many teams, he did it really well in France.

“He’s welcome to England – another good manager is coming.”

Attentions will now likely turn towards the summer transfer window and the players Arsenal could look to bring in to strengthen their squad this summer.

Arsenal have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph back in 2004.
