The England midfielder’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the current campaign and he is yet to commit his future to the north London club by penning a new contract.
Wilshere has expressed his desire to stay at Arsenal on multiple occasions this season but it seems that no deal between the two parties has yet been met.
The midfielder has been a strong performer for the Gunners in all competitions this season and he has managed to stay largely injury free.
Arsenal fans are likely to be hoping to see Wilshere commit his long-term future to the club by signing a new deal.
And Gunners legend Pires has admitted that he would love to see the England midfielder sign a new deal and commit himself to the north London club.
Speaking in an interview with bwin, Wilshere said: “I hope Jack Wilshere will sign a new contract at Arsenal.
“I think the club needs this type of player with his attitude and technical skill. He will continue to be a big player for Arsenal, especially now that he’s over his injuries.”
Wilshere will be hoping to feature for Arsenal when the Gunners return to Premier League action on Sunday with their home clash against Burnley at The Emirates.
Sunday’s game is Arsene Wenger’s final home game in charge before he steps down at the end of the season.
