Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis hints that the Gunners are preparing to make a number of signings
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has hinted that the Gunners are ready to back Unai Emery in the summer transfer market.
The Gunners confirmed the Spaniard as their new head coach on Wednesday after days of speculation about who could take charge from Arsene Wenger after the Frenchman stood down at the end of the season.
Emery has been tasked with turning Arsenal back into Premier League title contenders after their failure to challenge for the top flight trophy in recent seasons.
Arsenal have not won the Premier League since 2004 and they have finished fifth and sixth in the top flight in the last two seasons.
Attentions will now inevitably turn towards the summer transfer window and the players Emery will look to bring in to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.
And Arsenal chief Gazidis has hinted that the Gunners are prepared to spend big to back their new manager in the summer month.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal’s website during the week, Gazidis said: “The hard work starts right now.
“”We are right into the transfer window of course, but we’re also into many other things such as how we’re going to integrate his team, how we think about pre-season planning, how the teams are going to work together.
“There’s a lot of work to be done now to integrate this new team into our existing team. I know that we can do that successfully but it’s going to take hard work through the summer.
“There’s been obviously a lot of question marks as we’ve gone through this period of transition over recent weeks but now it’s really time to look forward as a football club.”
Arsenal will likely be looking to bring in a number of players this summer as they bid to strengthen their squad as much as possible during the off-season.
