Arsenal are hoping to tie up a deal to sign Juventus defender Mehdi Benatia, according to reports in France.
French outlet Le10Sport, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, is claiming that the Gunners are keen on securing the signing of the 31-year-old defender as manager Unai Emery looks to make his first moves in the transfer market.
Emery was appointed as Arsenal’s new manager last week and he has now turned his attentions towards bolstering his squad in the summer transfer window as he bids to transform the Gunners into title challengers for next season.
The same report says that Juventus could be willing to let Benatia leave the Turin club this summer as they prepare to revamp their defence – and Arsneal could be his destination.
The story also claims that Juventus could look to seek as much as £20m for the Moroccan defender.
Arsenal are hoping to build a squad capable of breaking back into the top four next season after they missed out on Champions League qualification for the second season running last term.
The Gunners ended up in sixth place in the Premier League table and without a trophy in what was Arsene Wenger’s final campaign in charge last season.
