The La Liga expert backs Mikel Arteta to be a success at Arsenal if the Gunners turn to the ex-midfielder

Guillem Balague insists Mikel Arteta is ready to become the next Arsenal manager.

The Manchester City coach is the favourite to take over the reins from Arsene Wenger in the summer.

The Gunners are on the lookout for a new head coach after the Frenchman stood down at the end of the 2017-18 season.

Arsenal are thought to be ready to turn to their former skipper to replace the 68-year-old despite his lack of managerial experience.

Arteta has worked as Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager at Manchester City and the retired Spanish midfielder played his part in their title success.

La Liga expert Balague took to Twitter to issue his backing for Arteta to be a hit in the Arsenal role should the Gunners appoint the former Everton star.

Balague wrote on the social media website: “Mikel Arteta is ready for the Arsenal job. Completely ready. More importantly I feel he thinks the same. I spoke to him before becoming member of City’s coaching staff (his last interview).”

Arsenal finished in sixth place in the Premier League table this season to miss out on a top-four spot and Champions Leagur football for the second successive season.

The Gunners lost 2-1 to La Liga side Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semi-finals to end their slim hopes of securing a top-four spot.

Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when the Gunners finished the campaign unbeaten.
