Arsenal set to make 24-year-old ‘essential’ summer signing – report
Arsenal want to sign Liverpool FC target Piotr Zielinski from Napoli this summer, according to a report in Italy
Arsenal are desperate to beat Liverpool FC to the signing of Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski, according to a report in Italy.
Italian media outlet Corriere del Mezzogiorno, as quoted by Daily Express, is reporting that the Gunners are keen to make signing the Napoli star a top priority.
The same article states that Zielinski has a contract release clause of £57m that both Arsenal and Liverpool FC could activate in the summer transfer window.
According to the same story, Arsenal view the Poland international as a potential replacement for Jack Wilshere should the Englishman refuse to sign a new deal with the Gunners.
Mesut Ozil’s patchy form is also a concern for the Gunners and Zielinksi would provide Arsene Wenger’s replacement with another option in the middle of the park.
Liverpool FC have been regularly linked with the Pole but the Reds are reportedly interested in his team-mate Jorginho to improve their options in defensive midfield.
Zielinski has scored four times and has made two assists in 12 starts and 22 substitute appearances in Serie A this season to help the Naples club challenge Juventus in the title race.
Arsenal lost 3-1 to Leicester City in Wenger’s penultimate game in charge at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday night.
