Roy Keane states his prediction for AS Roma v Liverpool FC
The Man United legend is backing Liverpool FC to get past AS Roma in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night
Roy Keane doesn’t believe Liverpool FC will slip up against AS Roma in the Champions League semi-final on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds are in pole position to reach the Champions League final after Liverpool FC eased to a 5-2 win against AS Roma in the first leg at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah netted twice in the first half before the Egypt international created goals for Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane to help the Reds build a commanding first-leg lead.
However, late goals from Edin Džeko and Diego Perotti gave the Italian giants a lifeline ahead of their reverse fixture in the Italian capital.
Liverpool FC are the Champions League’s leading goal-scorers this term following a return 38 goals. In fact, the Reds’ tally is the third highest total for a UEFA Champions League season behind Real Madrid CF’s 41 (2013/14) and FC Barcelona, who scored 45 in 2002/03.
Former Manchester United captain Keane believes the Reds will reach their first Champions League in 11 seasons when Liverpool FC take on AS Roma in the last-four clash at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night.
“I can’t see it (Roma comeback) on the performance in the first leg. Roma will be better at home, but Liverpool just tore them to shreds,” Keane told ITV Sport.
“They could have scored ten. Pretty straight forward tactics from Liverpool. Get the ball forward quickly and let the attackers do the rest. Intensity, pace, quality…to me there is no way back for Roma.
“They will be disappointed with a couple of goals they conceded at the end, but I thought Liverpool were outstanding. Liverpool will fancy their chances in this competition now, no doubt about that.”
Liverpool FC are in third place in the Premier League table and on course to finish in the top four in successive seasons.
