Collymore sends warning to Klopp as Liverpool FC reach Champions League final
The Liverpool FC legend reacts to the Reds' aggregate win against AS Roma in the Champions League semi-final
Stan Collymore warned Jurgen Klopp that Liverpool FC will need to improve defensively to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League final after a 4-2 loss to AS Roma was still enough to secure their place in Kiev.
Liverpool FC were 5-2 winners against AS Roma in the first leg of the semi-final tie after Mohamed Salah scored twice in the first half before the Egypt international teed up Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
However, AS Roma managed to get a lifeline ahead of the return leg following late goals from Diego Perotti and Edin Dzeko to leave the Italian side requiring a 3-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico.
Liverpool FC broke the deadlock through Sadio Mane in the ninth minute before James Milner’s own goal gave AS Roma hope of a comeback.
The Reds made it 2-1 on the night when Georginio Wijnaldum finished with a close-range header before Edin Dzeko netted nine minutes into the second half to give the Italian side a much-needed goal.
Radja Nainggolan netted a long-range striker with four minutes of normal time to play before the Belgian netted from the penalty spot to leave the Italian side needing one more goal to force extra time.
However, Klopp’s side managed to see out the win thanks to a 7-6 aggregate win against AS Roma to book their place in the Champions League final against La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Collymore wrote on Twitter: “Reds will get to Kiev but definitely need a good look at how to deal with Real Madrid defensively. If they both slug it out, 1 in 10 chance Liverpool outscore Madrid who have so much weaponry and experience. Little concerning.”
