Ian Wright raves about Andy Robertson as Liverpool FC reach Champions League final
The Arsenal legend singles out Liverpool FC star Andy Robertson for special praise in the Champions League semi-final
Ian Wright lavished praise on Andy Robertson for his performance in Liverpool FC’s 7-6 aggregate win against AS Roma the Champions League semi-final in Rome on Wednesday night.
The Reds defender retained his starting spot for the second leg at the Stadio Olimpico after he impressed at Anfield last week.
Robertson has earned a regular place in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI since Alberto Moreno’s injury setback back in December.
Liverpool FC signed Robertson in an £8m deal from relegated Hull City in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Robertson went from the prospect of Championship football to featuring in the Champions League semi-final in less than 12 months.
And the 23-year-old acquitted himself well as provided Klopp’s side with an opting getting forward down the left wing.
Robertson was assured when asked to defend his goal despite his inexperience in the Champions League.
Former Arsenal striker Wright was keen to point out Robertson’s performance to England legends Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer on Twitter.
Wright wrote on Twitter: “He’s some player that Robertson @alanshearer 😎”
He added: “Not bad from Robertson eh @GaryLineker 😎”
The Reds will take on La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev.
Liverpool FC are looking to win their first Champions League title since 2005 when the Reds beat AC Milan on penalties in Istanbul.
