The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw with 10-man Atletico in the first leg of their semi-final at The Emirates last week to make Diego Simeone’s side slight favourites to reach the final in Lyon.
Arsenal edged into a 1-0 lead thanks to Alexandre Lacazette’s second-half goal before France international Antoine Griezmann in the final 10 minutes at the Emirates Stadium last week.
Arsene Wenger’s side have a miserable record on the road in the Premier League this season after losing 10 of their 17 away fixtures following a 2-1 loss to Manchester United on Sunday evening.
Atletico have a rich European pedigree under Argentinian head coach Simeone having won the Europa League and reached two Champions League finals before losing to their bitter rivals Real Madrid.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is backing Atletico to beat Arsenal at the Wanda Metropolitano on Thursday night.
“Arsenal had a wonderful opportunity to make it through to Lyon next month after Atletico were reduced to 10-men after ten minutes at the Emirates,” Owen told BetVictor.
“Griezmann’s late equaliser at the Emirates was a bitter blow to the Gunners, however, and Atletico have won their last four Europa League home games without conceding a goal.
“Chelsea won in the Spanish capital in the Champions League earlier in the season but I can see this being Arsene Wenger’s 250th and final European club game. Remember the Gunners have not picked up an away point in the Premier League in 2018.”
Arsenal are on the lookout for a new manager after Wenger announced that he will stand down at the end of the season.
The Gunners are in sixth place in the Premier League table and will miss out on a top-four finish in successive campaigns.
