Mark Lawrenson states his prediction for Chelsea FC v Huddersfield
The Liverpool FC legend believes Chelsea FC will beat Huddersfield Town in the Premier League on Wednesday night
Mark Lawrenson is backing Chelsea FC to edge to victory over Huddersfield Town in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
The Blues have given themselves an outside chance of finishing in the Premier League’s top four following a 1-0 victory over Liverpool FC at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
The Merseyside outfit were unable to cement their top-four place after France international Olivier Giroud scored a first-half winner in west London.
Chelsea FC have won their last four Premier League games thanks to straightforward victories over Burnley, Southampton and Swansea.
The Blues can move level on points with third-placed Liverpool FC with a win over Huddersfield but the Reds have a far superior goal difference to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side in control of their destiny.
Antonio Conte’s side will welcome Huddersfield Town to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night after the Terriers held Premier League champions Manchester City to a goalless draw at the Etihad Stadium last weekend.
Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson believes Chelsea FC will beat Huddersfield Town in the west London side’s final home game of the 2017-18 season.
“What a fabulous result Huddersfield’s draw at Manchester City on Sunday was for them,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“I looked at the Terriers’ final three games, against City (away), Chelsea (away) and Arsenal (home) and thought that last one was their best chance of getting something because of the Gunners’ poor away form and the fact Arsene Wenger has already had his send-off.”
He added: “But for them to hold City and keep a clean sheet was totally unexpected and could be so crucial for them.
“It does not get any easier for Huddersfield now, though, because they have to go to a Chelsea side who have won four league games in a row.
“Antonio Conte’s side have given themselves a chance of finishing fourth because the teams above them, Liverpool and Tottenham, have faltered, and I think the Blues will win again on Wednesday.”
Chelsea FC have won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons.
The Blues signed three players in the January transfer window.
