Paul Merson is backing Chelsea FC to put pressure on Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur in the top-four race with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night.

The Blues were 1-0 winners against Liverpool FC at Stamford Bridge last weekend after France international Olivier Giroud netted a first-half winner on Sunday evening.

Liverpool FC are still sitting three points ahead of Chelsea FC with a vastly superior goal difference, while Spurs have a two-point cushion over the west London side.

Antonio Conte’s side looked dead and buried in the top-four a month or so ago but the Blues have injected life into their slim hopes of securing Champions League football next term.

Huddersfield managed to hold Premier League champions Manchester City to a goalless stalemate at the Etihad Stadium last weekend.

Former Arsenal star Merson believes Chelsea FC will secure a comfortable 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night.

“Huddersfield worked really hard on Sunday at Man City, but Chelsea HAVE to win this football match otherwise Sunday’s win against Liverpool will be pointless and just goes out the window,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“So I think Chelsea will win this 2-0, but this is a big game for them to put pressure on Spurs and Liverpool.”

Chelsea FC won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season after Conte’s side finished seven points ahead of Tottenham in the title race.

The Blues will take on bitter rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley later this month.
