Danny Murphy sends message to Chelsea FC fans about Alvaro Morata
The Liverpool FC legend reacts to Alvaro Morata's first season at Chelsea FC
Danny Murphy has admitted that Alvaro Morata has been largely disappointing in his first season at Chelsea FC despite flashes of brilliance.
The Blues missed out on the signing of Belgium international Romelu Lukaku last summer after their ex-striker opted to reunite with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
Chelsea FC instead signed Morata in a club record £60m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid to bolster their attack ahead of the defence of their Premier League crown.
His compatriot Diego Costa returned to Atletico Madrid to heap pressure on Morata in his debut season in the Premier League.
Morata made a promising start to his Chelsea FC career with nine goals in eight games but his form soon took a downturn.
Indeed, the Spanish forward struggled with a loss of form and persistent injury problems to hamper his impact.
Former Liverpool FC and Tottenham star Murphy admitted that Morata has been a disappointment following his big money move to Chelsea FC.
“Alvaro Morata has also been disappointing for Chelsea, but we have had glimpses of his talent at different times in the campaign,” Murphy told the London Evening Standard.
Morata has scored 11 times in 29 games in the Premier League this season.
The Blues will take on bitter rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley later this month after losing 2-1 to Arsenal in the final last season.
