Thierry Henry: Why Antonio Conte loves this Chelsea FC striker
The Arsenal legend explains why Antonio Conte is such a big fan of Chelsea FC striker Olivier Giroud
Olivier Giroud is the type of striker that Chelsea FC boss Antonio Conte likes, according to Thierry Henry.
The France international moved to the Blues in a £21m deal from their bitter London rivals Arsenal in the January transfer window.
Giroud scored Chelsea FC’s winner in a 1-0 victory over Liverpool FC to keep their slim hopes of securing a Champions League place next term.
The 31-year-old has scored three goals in five starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League since his January move.
Conte has been unhappy with a number of his signings over the past 12 months after missing out on his top targets.
However, former Arsenal striker Henry explained why Conte is such a big fan of Giroud.
“He has given Chelsea momentum. He scored two goals at Southampton in the league,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“Giroud is the type of striker Conte likes. He likes to have a target man. He had it with Juve at Llorente. He likes a player who can hold the ball.”
Chelsea FC lost 4-1 to Spanish giants FC Barcelona in the Champions League round of 16 to fail to make progress in Europe’s top tier competition.
The Blues have won the Premier League title in two of the past three seasons under Jurgen Klopp.
