Pundit names Chelsea FC summer signing who has won over Blues supporters
BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks believes Antonio Rudiger has won over Chelsea FC supporters
Antonio Rudiger is fast becoming the darling of Chelsea FC, according to Garth Crooks.
The Germany international moved to Chelsea FC in a £34m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the 2017 summer transfer window.
The Blues signed Rudiger to reinforce their defence following John Terry’s move to Championship side Aston Villa last summer.
The 25-year-old has scored two goals and has made one assist in 24 appearances in the Premier League this season.
Rudiger has forged an understanding with Cesar Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill and Andreas Christensen in the current campaign.
The Geramn defender managed to keep PFA player of the year Mohamed Salah under wraps during Chelsea FC’s 1-0 win over Liverpool FC.
Former Spurs forward Crooks believes Rudiger is fast winning over the Chelsea FC fans at Stamford Bridge.
“From the reaction of the Chelsea faithful during the match against Liverpool, I got the distinct impression Antonio Rudiger is fast becoming the darling of Stamford Bridge,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“Every challenge he made was cheered and every tackle was applauded. There were even chants of “Rudi” around the ground.
“Rudiger, after a difficult start, has had a superb season at Chelsea and been pivotal in their attempt to wrest a Champions League spot from Spurs. There is also something of the Ricardo Carvalho about the way he plays – and he wasn’t bad either.”
Chelsea FC won the Premier League title last season after the Blues finished seven points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in the title race.
The Blues lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley last season to miss out on a double in their current campaign.
