The 2017 Premier League champions hadn’t won the FA Cup since 2012 when Roberto di Matteo’s side were 2-1 winners against Liverpool FC at Wembley.
Manchester United were slight favourites to win the FA Cup final given the Red Devils finished in runners up spot and 11 points ahead of Chelsea FC in the Premier League table.
However, Hazard proved to be the decisive player after the Belgium international won a first-half penalty after Manchester United defender Phil Jones brought down the Chelsea FC forward.
The Real Madrid target calmly spotted his penalty kick past Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea at Wembley to secure the FA Cup title for the first time in his Blues career.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand lavished praise on Hazard after the Belgian star played a key role in the FA Cup success over Manchester United.
“Hazard was in devastating form. He really was the match winner today,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since 2013 when Sir Alex Ferguson got their hands on his 13th and final top-flight crown.
Hazard has won the Premier League title twice with Chelsea FC.
