Phil Jones sends warning to Man United about Chelsea FC in FA Cup final
The Manchester United star is desperate to win some more silverware ahead of their FA Cup final on Sunday
Phil Jones believes Manchester United need to get their hands on the FA Cup trophy to avoid standing still ahead of their clash against Chelsea FC at Wembley.
The Red Devils will take on their bitter rivals in the FA Cup showpiece in search of their third trophy since Jose Mourinho took over the reins from Louis van Gaal in May 2016.
Manchester United won the FA Cup under Van Gaal in the Dutch head coach’s final campaign in charge after the Red Devils beat Crystal Palace in extra time.
The 20-time English champions finished in second place in the Premier League table to secure a spot in the Champions League next term.
Chelsea FC, on the other hand, need to win the FA Cup to end their season on a positive note after a disappointing defence of their Premier League crown.
The west London side were 2-0 winners against Southampton in the FA Cup semi-final to book their place in successive FA Cup finals.
Speaking to the club’s website about their FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday evening, Jones said:
“It’s a fantastic history that we’ve got. Time does not stand still and we can’t let opportunities pass us by like the FA Cup final coming up. This team and this squad is the one that has to keep producing trophies and maintaining the history of the club.”
Manchester United were 2-1 winners against Chelsea FC at Old Trafford earlier this year.
The Blues eased to a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge back in November.
