David De Gea named as the key player in Chelsea FC v Man United
The Man United legend is hoping David De Gea can have a big game in the FA Cup final on Saturday
Andy Cole believes David De Gea will need to be at his best if Manchester United are going to beat Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.
The Red Devils are looking to win the competition for the second time in three seasons following a 2-1 extra-time triumph over Crystal Palace in May 2016.
Jose Mourinho has the chance to get his hands on his major trophy since taking over the reins from Dutch coach Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford two seasons ago.
De Gea has been Manchester United’s most consistent player this season in a mixed campaign for the Red Devils both domestically and in Europe.
Manchester United were 2-1 winners against Chelsea FC at Old Trafford earlier this year after a 1-0 loss to the Blues at Stamford Bridge last autumn.
Former Red Devils striker Cole warned De Gea will need to be at his best to prevent Eden Hazard and Willian winning the cup final for Chelsea FC.
“Oh dear me! Well, if Eden Hazard and Willian play well, it will most probably be our keeper, David De Gea,” Cole told Man United’s website.
“He has been fantastic this season, winning Player of the Year again. Hopefully, we can get service to whoever plays up front too. If it’s Romelu Lukaku, we’ll have to wait and see.””
Manchester United signed De Gea in a £19m deal from La Liga side Atletico Madrid in the 2011 summer transfer window to replace Edwin van der Sar.
The Red Devils shot stopper has been heavily linked with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid in recent months, as has happened on a perennial basis.
