The Red Devils were 1-0 winners against Watford in their final Premier League game of the season to finish in second place behind champions Manchester City.
However, Manchester United ended up a staggering 17 points behind Pep Guardiola’s side to highlight the gap between the two bitter derby rivals.
Chelsea FC squandered the chance to cause an upset and sneak a top-four finish following a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town mid-week before a 3-0 loss to Newcastle on Sunday.
Both Chelsea FC and Manchester United exited the Champions League at the round of 16 following losses to FC Barcelona and Sevilla.
Therefore the FA Cup represents their only chance at getting their hands on silverware for the second successive season under Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho.
Former Manchester United star Neville believes the FA Cup final is a huge game for both Chelsea FC and Manchester United.
“It’s a huge game in defining the season for these two clubs,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“If Conte can come away from England winning the Premier League and FA Cup, that is huge success.
“It’s a success anyway because he won the Premier League last year, but if they win the FA Cup and beat Manchester United at Wembley it would be an absolute success.”
Chelsea FC won the Premier League title with two games to spare last season in Conte’s debut campaign in charge.
Jose Mourinho led Manchester United to glory in the Europa League and the League Cup.
